This drama tells the story of Zhang Ju Zheng, a famous figure from the Ming Dynasty. In ancient China, it was rare for prime ministers to rise from humble beginnings, but Zhang Ju Zheng did just that. He helps guide the young emperor, who is only 10 years old, in making important changes to improve the country.

Even though Zhang works hard for these reforms, he faces a lot of pushback from others, and his family has to suffer the consequences of his ideas and mistakes. As things become more challenging for him, his struggles hint at the troubles that will come for the Ming Dynasty as a whole.
