In the 1930s, Ouyang Tian Qing and several other young women from Guangdong set sail for Singapore in search of work. They wore bright red headscarves and became known as the "Red Scarves" as they worked on construction sites to survive.
Bai Wei, who was on the same boat, arrived in Xingzhou to apply for a job as a tutor with the wealthy Lu family. On her journey, she met the handsome and charming Lu Xueting, the third son of the Lu family. Tian Qing’s younger sister, He Xiao Chan, also came to Singapore to escape an arranged marriage.
When they arrived, Xiao Chan was blackmailed by a gangster named Kuang Haisheng, who worked for the Dragon King's gang, after she tried to skip paying for her fare. Bai Wei stepped in to help, and soon, the three women became friends. Along the way, Kuang Haisheng’s heart was unexpectedly touched by love. The trio also encounters Nan Lan, a mysterious, beautiful, and wealthy woman from Xingzhou, whose presence brings new twists to their lives.
This is a story of struggle, friendship, love, and survival, filled with the challenges and triumphs of Chinese women abroad, as well as the richness of Chinese culture in a new land.
